Biographical Profile of

Char Taty-Scheck,

Marriage & Family Therapist Intern

Our past does not have to define us!  I learned this truth in my own life after years of hiding who I really was.  In fact, I came to realize that I didn’t really know who I was, and certainly didn’t believe that I was good enough or deserving enough to be given love and acceptance.  After spending many years trying to hide my hurts and insecurities with alcohol and relationships I had a rock bottom experience that introduced me to Jesus!  My own personal therapy and a growing relationship with God allowed me to break through the facades I had created to protect myself.  Ultimately, my past had kept me from being truly seen, known, and loved in the way I longed to be by others or by myself. I was finally able to discover who I really was and reached a point of loving and accepting myself, and allowing myself to be loved and accepted by others!

I believe that we all have had difficult and/or painful experiences in our lives that may cause us to hide and become stuck in our personal beliefs and growth.  I also believe that we all have the capability to find healing and to grow from these experiences; sometimes we just need a little help!  It is my desire as a therapist to meet and accept my clients just as they are, without judgement, and walk with them as they break through their own facades, find healing, and experience growth.

I work with couples, families, children/youth, and female and male individuals experiencing a variety of issues, including:

  • Marital and Relationship Issues, including Betrayal
  • Anxiety/Depression
  • Grief
  • Boundaries
  • Trauma
  • Identity Issues
  • Spiritual/faith related issues and growth
  • Ministry or missionary issues (adjustments, re-entry)

and I specialize in several different methods of treatment, including:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for marriage and relationship issues
  • EMDR: A therapeutic approach that facilitates healing from current symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of traumatic experiences in the past
  • CBT – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
